Fortune-telling and divination has been practiced for thousands of years, and is just as popular today as it ever was. People who part the veil and glimpse into the future have always been in demand. Fortune-telling and divination are not synonyms, even though they both provide information about the future. Fortune-telling is based on the premise that the future is unchangeable. Everything is preordained and there is no room for free will. Divination, on the other hand, involves communication with the divine – or some supernatural force – to gain clues about possible outcomes. Divination usually involves accessing the subconscious mind, which provides answers to the questions the person has. This talk will focus on the many Divination systems that have come about in the last 5000 years.
